Acupuncture with intention
Practical, effective and tailored to how your body responds.
What is Acupuncture
Acupuncture is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), a medical system that uses specific points on the body to regulate function, reduce pain, and support recovery. Fine needles are placed at carefully selected locations based on your condition. In some cases, additional techniques such as cupping or moxibustion may be used. The goal is not only symptom relief, but measurable improvement in function and overall stability.
Balance Method acupuncture, developed by Dr. Richard Tan, is a structured and precise system of acupuncture. Instead of needling the area of pain directly, points are selected on corresponding meridians, often on opposite arms or legs, to influence the affected area.
This allows treatment to remain comfortable while supporting effective change. The system follows a clear clinical framework, allowing treatment to be tailored and adjusted based on how your body responds.

What To Expect in Your First Consultation
Diagnosis
We begin by discussing your symptoms and overall health to understand the cause of your discomfort. This is done through a detailed consultation and assessment.
Treatment Plan
Based on your diagnosis, we create a personalized treatment plan that’s tailored to your specific needs.
The Sessions
Your acupuncture session begins with needle placement, followed by a check-in to assess changes in pain or discomfort and adjust the treatment if needed. The needles will stay up to 30 minutes, allowing time to relax. Afterward, progress is evaluated, future treatments are discussed.
Specialties
Acupuncture supports a wide range of conditions — from chronic pain and injury recovery to stress, sleep and hormonal health.
Reviews
Best acupuncture session I’ve ever had. I left completely pain free and relaxed. Nuno is knowledgeable, patient, empathetic, and kind. I’ll definitely be back!
FernandaMy first but definitely not my last accupuncture experience. Nuno is kind, calm, knowledgeable and makes you feel so comfortable and safe. The experience was so deeply relaxing, energy started flowing and then brought me deep into myself. I am very grateful for the experience and look forward to my next visit.

While improvement can occur after the first session, lasting results typically develop over a small series of treatments. An initial series of 3 to 5 sessions allows the body to respond progressively and stabilise the changes achieved. This approach helps address the underlying imbalance rather than providing only temporary relief.
-
No referral is required. You can book directly whenever you feel ready. After your session, you will receive a digital invoice which can be submitted to your insurer for reimbursement.

In the Netherlands, acupuncture is commonly reimbursed through supplementary (aanvullende) insurance. These treatments do not use your mandatory deductible (eigen risico). Embodhi is registered with recognised professional associations, which allows most insurers to provide reimbursement. Coverage varies, so it’s recommended to check your individual policy under "Alternatieve Geneeswijzen."

Absolutely. Acupuncture works well alongside movement practices and physical therapy. It supports recovery, helps regulate muscle tension, and allows the body to adapt more efficiently to training or rehabilitation. Many people use it to complement the work they are already doing in yoga, physiotherapy or sports.
-
This is completely understandable. Acupuncture needles are extremely fine and much thinner than those used for injections. Most people feel very little as they are inserted. Occasionally you may notice a mild sensation such as warmth, heaviness, a light twitch or gentle pressure. These are normal responses and typically pass quickly. Most people remain comfortable and relaxed during the session.
-
Most people feel relaxed and often notice a reduction in tension or discomfort after a session. Some may feel slightly tired, which is a normal response. Although improvement is often noticed during the session, symptoms can occasionally increase temporarily before improving further. This is part of the body’s adjustment to the treatment and usually settles within a short period. Drinking water and taking it easy for the rest of the day can help support recovery.
-
Acupuncture works best when treatments are initially scheduled closer together. This allows the body to respond and stabilise the changes achieved. As symptoms improve, sessions can be spaced further apart. Some people then continue with occasional treatments to maintain results and prevent symptoms from returning.

Comfortable clothing is ideal. Balance Method Acupuncture typically uses points on the arms and legs below the elbows and knees. Being able to roll up sleeves or trousers allows easy access while remaining fully clothed.
