Traditional Chinese Medicine
Boasting a rich 3,000-year history, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) goes beyond treating illness. It uses practices like acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping, guasha, tuina and qigong, to promote overall well-being and prevent health problems.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture uses thin needles to stimulate specific points on the body. Treatment is can be complemented by moxibustion, cupping, breathing exercises, and dietary guidance. This ancient therapy offers not only relief for chronic conditions where conventional medicine falls short but also serves as a preventive measure against illness, promoting holistic well-being. Each acupuncture point corresponds to vital organs, facilitating the restoration of the body's equilibrium through nervous system stimulation and improved blood circulation. This process fosters resilience, reduces stress, alleviates pain and fatigue, and optimizes hormonal balance, nurturing self-regulation.
Auriculo Acupuncture
Auriculo Acupuncture (also called ear acupuncture) is a type of acupuncture that targets specific points on the ear to treat health conditions throughout the body. It's based on the idea that the ear is a microcosm of the body, with specific points corresponding to different organs and systems.
This treatment can be done with tiny sterile needles for a gentle sensation, or with ear seeds for those who prefer a needle-free approach. Ear seeds are placed on acupressure points and provide continuous gentle stimulation.
Auriculoacupuncture can be used for a variety of concerns, including pain relief, anxiety, insomnia, and addiction.
Cupping
Cupping involves the use of small glass cups as suction tools placed on the skin to alleviate congestion by drawing stagnant blood and qi to the surface. Cupping can be performed using either glass or plastic cups. Fire is used to create suction within the glass cups. This method involves briefly igniting a flame inside the cup to remove the oxygen and create a vacuum when the cup is placed on the skin.
This therapy delves into deep tissues, aiding in the elimination of toxins, the removal of obstructions, and the revitalization of veins and arteries in the treated regions. Typically administered on the back, cupping can also be applied to the hands, wrists, legs, and ankles, targeting particular organs associated with these areas.
Moxibustion
Moxibustion is the controlled burning of mugwort (Artemisia Vulgaris) on specific acupuncture points or targeted areas of the body.
This stimulates healing by bringing nourishment in the affected region, enhancing blood circulation and the flow of vital energy (qi), and expelling any detrimental elements.
Often complementing acupuncture treatments or serving as an alternative depending on the problem, moxibustion is deeply intertwined with acupuncture, as reflected in the literal translation of the Chinese characters for acupuncture, which include "acupuncture-moxibustion."
