THE YOGIC PLAY OF CONSCIOUSNESS

Parveen Nair returns to Amsterdam to lead a 3-day Embodied Yoga workshop inspired by the Vijnana Bhairava Tantra, one of the earliest yogic meditation texts from the Kashmir Shaiva tradition.

This workshop explores yoga as an embodied practice. Rather than withdrawing from experience, it invites entering deeply into breath, sensation, movement, and lived experience.

Workshop focus:

  • Embodied Yoga Flow

  • Circular & Spiral Movement Patterns

  • Embodied Pranayama

  • Philosophy from the Vijnana Bhairava Tantra

Program:

  • Day 1: Circular Movement Patterns

  • Day 2: Spiral Movement Patterns

  • Day 3: Hamsa Tandava

Investment: €350

  • First Class: Embodied Yoga Flow (3 hours)

This session establishes the foundational elements of Embodied Yoga: sensing from the inside out and relating to space through movement. Circular movement patterns are explored to develop responsiveness in the shoulders, neck, and spine.

    What to expect:

    • Centering and landing into the present body, noticing sensations moment to moment

    • Observing natural breathing patterns within body space

    • Rhythmic shaking to stimulate the nervous system

    • Exploring circular movement patterns in multiple planes

    • Learning to listen to the body through circular motion

    • Discovering circular structures in the body that allow effortless movement

    • Integrating all movements into a mindful, embodied dance-like flow accompanied by music

Second Class: Philosophy – VijnanaBhairava Tantra (1 hour)

An introduction to the text and its radical approach to meditation. Why does this Tantra speak to everyone? How to apply the Tantra in our daily life and practice living the Tantra.

We will explore Verses 1 and 2 of the Vijnana Bhairava Tantra, along with the Hamsa / Soham mantra.

    Third Class: Pranayama (2 hours)

Exploration of pranayama practices from the Vijnana Bhairava Tantra. Prior to breathwork, participants engage in somatic circular floor movements to cultivate awareness and sensitivity toward the breath. These movements help release physical and mental fatigue, calming the nervous system in preparation for breathing practices.

  • First Class: Embodied Yoga Flow (3 hours)

This session deepens embodied awareness through spiral movement patterns, enhancing hip and spinal connectivity.

    What to expect:

    • Centering and body awareness through tactile exploration

    • Observing natural breathing patterns

    • Rhythmic shaking for nervous system activation

    • Exploring spiral movements in different planes

    • Listening to the body through spiral pathways

    • Discovering natural anatomical spirals that allow effortless movement

    • Integrating movements into a mindful, embodied dance-based flow with music

Second Class: Philosophy – VijnanaBhairava Tantra (1 hour)

Exploration of Verses 3 and 4 from the text, focusing on the integration of meditation within lived human experience.

Third Class: Embodied Pranayama (2 hours)

Somatic spiral floor movements are used to awaken breath sensitivity and self-awareness. These practices release fatigue and quiet the mind, preparing the body to receive pranayama practices drawn from the VijnanaBhairava Tantra.

  • First Class: Embodied Yoga Flow (3 hours)

Hamsa Tandava is an embodied flow developed by Parveen Nair, dedicated to Lord Bhairava, who reveals the secret of the Hamsa/Soham breath to Shakti. This flow celebrates the graceful yet powerful movement of the Divine Swan’s wings, integrating yogic postures with classical dance mudras.

The practice cultivates surrender to the natural current moving through the body.

    What to expect:

    • Landing into the present body and introduction to the Hamsa/Soham breath

    • Natural, wing-like movements inspired by the Hamsa

    • Exploration of yoga asanas across multiple planes, coordinated with breath.

    • Marrying the previous class circular and spiral movements into an embodied flow sequence.

    • Accompaniment by recorded Indian classical percussion music

    • Recovery patterns leading back to innate stillness

Second Class: Philosophy – VijnanaBhairava Tantra (1 hour)

Exploration of Verses 5 and 6, deepening understanding of embodied awareness and inner silence.

Third Class: Embodied Pranayama (2 hours)

Breath practices from the VijnanaBhairava Tantra, combined with gentle spinal movement patterns to cultivate awareness of the spine and subtle energy centers (chakras). These movements help release fatigue, calm the nervous system, and prepare the body to receive the breath with clarity and openness.
